Nick Moreno likes living alone, but when his baby sister calls him and asks him to help out a friend of hers, he can’t say no. His brother, Jake, is immediately smitten by his new roommate. When Nick and Jake tag along to help Sara deal with her mother’s unexpected visit, Jake creates havoc, as only he can do. Jake convinces Nick and Sara to pretend to be engaged just to get through the visit. How hard could it be? They’re already living together. Nick grudgingly agrees. After all, what could possibly go wrong? Pursued by one brother, and completely confused by the other, what’s a girl with a pretend fiancé and real feelings to do? Book One in the Moreno Trilogy

EXCERPT :

A thought occurred to Sara. “Nick, did you know my Mom was there?” He shook his head no, rubbing his forehead against hers. “So you weren’t putting on a show with the kiss?” He shook his head once more.

“Then…what was...” she trailed off helplessly.

He leaned back against the wall, but still holding her hand, quirked an eyebrow. He didn’t give her time to ask any more questions but instead leaned in again, and Sara closed her eyes, bracing herself for another kiss. Her eyes popped opened in surprise when she felt him kiss the tip of her nose. He turned and headed to the garage, pulling her along behind him.

AUTHOR BIO:

S.K. Weathers was born in Colorado, but grew up an Army Brat. Having lived in Texas, California, and Utah, her family moved back to Colorado when she was in 6th grade. Growing up, she was painfully shy and had a hard time with moving constantly and making friends. She read quite a bit when she was younger and her love of reading only increased over time. In grade school she would write for fun, and then in high school she wrote several uncompleted works. Writing was a creative outlet for her during stressful times in her life. Then one day she stumbled upon a fanfiction site where everyday people would write stories about their favorite literary, television and movie characters. She published several short stories and the feedback she received was positive enough she went back to works she had never finished and revisited them. After urging from a couple of friends she decided to take the plunge and self-publish. Fiancé for Hire is her first published work. She has a day job, but hopes that one day she will be able to write full time.

Author interview:
S.K. Weathers

What inspired you to write this book?
I don’t actually remember what the specific inspiration for this particular book was. It was about 7 years ago the idea popped into my head and I think at the time I was just in the mood for a lighthearted love story. In books I’ve always been drawn to the quiet, mysterious, misunderstood hero. Watching the story unfold as the heroine breaks through the hero’s reserve and he has no choice but to admit to his feelings. I love those types of stories, so I wanted to write one.

How did you come up with the title?
It just happened to relate to the book. Sara is in need of someone to pretend to be her fiancé, only while her mother is in town for a surprise visit. Even though, technically, she didn’t really hire Nick. It was more Jake volunteering his brother for the role.

Are events in the book based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
There are some bits of Sara that I see in myself. Friends, having read the book, will tell me that they can see me in dialogue and in certain scenes. I had to throw Jake in the book too, because while I’m drawn to the tall, dark, and handsome stereotype, I’ve always had a thing for blond men. I think some of Sara’s insecurities were mine as well. About not putting enough into a current relationship and also ultimately disappointing her mother with her life choices.

What book are you reading now?
I try to stay away from full length books until I have time to actually sit and enjoy reading the whole book. I’m a fast reader, but I will literally stay up all night if I get into a book, so I try not to do it unless I can afford the lack of sleep the next day.  So right now I’m reading a Chicken Soup for the Soul book. It’s full of short stories, so I can read a handful of them and then sleep. Lol….

Who is your favorite author?
I have several that I will snatch up their books when they’re released, and will go back and read them again and again: Lynn Kurland, Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Susan Elizabeth Phillips. For a time I couldn’t get enough of Janet Evanovich’s books or Lisa Kleypas. Right now though I’m really into reading urban fantasy/paranormal, and have been exposed to so many new NA titles, I’m getting a taste of those too. My favorite of all time book though would be Beauty, a retelling of Beauty and the Beast by Robin McKinley.

Do you have any advice for other writers?
Write as much as you can. Even if you don’t feel like working on your current story, start another one, or work on something light hearted and silly just to keep the juices flowing. I find that when I write, the more I write the more the ideas flow. You can actually go a bit nutty with that though, so I always keep a tape recorder in the car or a voice recording app so you can get the ideas down as they come. The best brainstorming time I have is when I make my morning commute to work. The ideas are flowing. So I record them as they come. Then I find a free moment later in the week or in a month, listen to my notes and jot them down into a notebook. I usually have a divided notebook, by story or just a misc tab for stuff that doesn’t quite fit anywhere else just yet. I jot down the notes in a section for that story. Then when I’m editing the story I go back and check to make sure there aren’t ideas that I’ve forgotten about that I added to my notebook. There are usually several, so I go back and add them and cross them out of my notebook. Some of the best ideas I’ve had, I’ve almost forgotten about them. Sometimes the idea doesn’t quite work for that particular book but it might find it’s way into another story I’m working on.
